FAQ Couples Marathon Therapy Intensives *

  • A Couples Therapy Marathon is an intensive, private counseling experience for one couple at a time. It condenses months of therapy into two or three consecutive days (6 hours per day), allowing you to make meaningful progress quickly and without the stop-start rhythm of weekly sessions.

  • Couples Marathons are ideal for:

    • Partners in crisis or at a breaking point

    • Couples with limited time or busy schedules

    • Long-distance or traveling couples

    • Those who want to dive deep into specific issues

    • Couples who’ve felt stuck in traditional therapy

    • One or both partners who are unsure whether to stay together (Discernment Counseling principles can be integrated)

  • Traditional weekly sessions often run out of time just as the conversation gets to the heart of the matter. A marathon gives you space to:

    • Slow down and go deeper

    • Do meaningful repair work

    • Learn new tools and practice them in real time

    • Leave with greater clarity, connection, and direction

This is immersive, goal-oriented work tailored to your relationship's unique needs.

  • Yes. Marathons are grounded in the Gottman Method, a research-based approach to couples therapy. If you’re uncertain about the future of the relationship, I also integrate Discernment Counseling principles to help clarify each partner’s hopes and direction.

  • Each day includes six hours of structured therapy with breaks built in.
Day 1 focuses on assessment and understanding the relationship dynamics. In the afternoon we begin focusing on intervention.
Days 2–3 focus on intervention, skill-building, and meaningful repair.

  • Yes. Prior to your intensive, each partner will complete the Gottman Relationship Checkup, a comprehensive online assessment that helps us identify your strengths, challenges, and patterns. This gives us a detailed starting point for our work together.

    • In person at my office in Bellingham, WA

    • Virtually via secure video platform for couples located anywhere

    • 2-Day Marathon: $4,250

    • 3-Day Marathon: $5,950
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your dates, due to the time commitment involved.

  • That’s completely understandable. I offer a free 15-minute consultation to answer any questions and help you determine whether a marathon intensive is the right fit for your relationship at this time.

  • You’re not alone—many couples seek intensives during periods of uncertainty. As a Certified Discernment Counselor, I create a space where both partners can be honest about where they are and explore next steps without pressure. The goal is clarity and mutual respect, whatever direction you choose.

  • Depending on your goals and engagement in the process, couples typically leave with:

    • A deeper understanding of themselves and each other

    • Tools to improve communication and reduce conflict

    • Movement toward healing old hurts

    • Greater clarity about the relationship’s future

    • A shared action plan or next steps

    • A workbook from the 2 or 3 days with your insights, new tools, and clarity on roles and responsibilities for working on the relationship

  • You can start by contacting me here or scheduling a brief consultation. I’ll answer your questions, learn more about your situation, and walk you through the process.

Dr. Kellison and marathon therapy was a game-changer for us. after multiple failed attempts at couples therapy we felt hopeless. we felt heard, understood by each other and left feeling closer and more committed to our relationship. also, she called us on your Sh*T. we have hope about our future.”

“you have such a gift and we are so grateful you shared it with us:) We got so much out of our two days because of your tact and agility. i was initially hesitant about the idea of such a long session, but Dr. K created a safe space where we could really open up and work through our challenges.”
